Common belief holds that deserts are lifeless, while mountains, seas, and oceans are alive. In truth, it's the reverse. Water and mountains experience changes but revert to their original states, varying within specific frames. On the contrary, deserts perpetually transform, shifting their appearance daily. Defying precise topographical measurements, the desert's features alter dramatically. After a single gust of wind, mountains on a grand scale can vanish and reappear elsewhere in completely different sizes, featuring surfaces petrified and strewn with stones, which constantly evolve—sometimes manifesting, at other times disappearing. Observing the desert from a distance reveals a monotony that diverges significantly from photographic representations. Yet, this apparent uniformity becomes enthralling upon close observation, with the image morphing every few hours.
Understanding these dynamics, we concluded the work accordingly, going beyond our initial intentions. We meticulously refined these fragments, evoking a distant view of the desert. Much like the desert's transformative nature, the artwork itself evolves. Throughout the day, different sections shift in shades, becoming dark or transparent when touched by sunlight and exhibiting an inverse effect under artificial illumination. This unplanned aspect resonated with us. Ultimately, we achieved what we had planned to do from the outset: create an engaging piece that avoids monotony while retaining a sense of emptiness. This was accomplished by capturing the multifaceted, ceaseless changes reminiscent of the desert's natural evolution.
Our profound love for the desert fueled our commitment to represent it accurately. The desert reminds us that we are very, very small and minute. And it calms us down a lot. We can do nothing at all, for in the vast time of desert existence, any change is imperceptible from its perspective. Yet, we persist, attempting to beautify, amuse, and enhance, striving to add meaning and essence, seeking more mystery. And we do what else, what maybe can help to prevent, or at least slightly prolong, the realization and recognition that the only indeed truth, without a doubt, what is sometimes called beauty is - emptiness, "nothing," nothingness.
But amidst it all, we encounter two nonsenses: first- we can fully comprehend it. Second- we do not make it.
But there is no need to go on a deep-meaning treasure hunt or unravel profound mysteries. The deal is simple: you should love what's gracing your wall, and it should keep you smiling.
